All About Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are a gel-like collagen substance which are injected into the skin by tiny needles to plump, shape, or contour the skin which has suffered the effects of aging, or scars, or to enhance and contour noses, lips, or chins. There are many types and brands of derma fillers which vary in thickness, the thicker the dermal filler, the deeper it can be injected into the body. Some derma fillers stimulate collagen growth in the body. Derma fillers are either natural or synthetic, permanent or non-permanent. Natural dermal fillers are usually taken from either from human, pig, or bovine. Non-permanent fillers tend to be more popular although they require repeat treatments when their effects begin to wear off, mostly due to the risks of infection of a permanent filler. The skin is composed of the epidermis and the dermis. The inner layer, or the dermis is mainly composed of collagen, which gives the skin a smooth firm appearance. Natural aging causes the epidermis to become thinner, which contributes to the breakdown of collagen, while collagen production also slows down with aging. All these conditions result in the skin losing its youthful appearance causing wrinkles, folds, and lines. Dermal filler acts as lost collagen filling in the gaps where collagen used to be, or smoothing out wrinkles. As the dermal filler is absorbed by the body repeat treatments become necessary. There are many advantages to dermal filler treatments as opposed to traditional surgery. Dermal filler treatments are affordable, non-surgical, have little or no side effects or risks, no recovery time-many have the treatment during their lunch hour, and results are immediate. The costs of dermal fillers vary depending on the type, brand, and the depth of treatment, as well as, the type and number of syringes that will be used.
